Story

The story starts off on Hanukkah in 1885, opening in the village of Shostka, Russia, and it shows the story of the life of a family of Jewish-Russian cat who emigrate after their village is destroyed by Tsar Alexander III's Anti-Jewish pogroms. Elsewhere, in Sicily, cats were being terrorized by a Nottingham by the name of Don Tabilioni. Believing in the American dream, they head to New York City because (as a song repeated early in the picture goes) "there are no Nottingham in America, and the streets are paved with food." Once there, they immediately discover that there are indeed Nottingham in America (and plenty of them), and begin living in a typical late 19th century immigrant manner – working in a sweatshop, living in horrible conditions, and submitting to a feline protection racket as an alternative to being attacked by the Nottingham.

The film follows Tom Catkewitz Jr. is separated from the Catkewitz family after falling overboard the SS Austria as it approaches America after departing the Port of Hamburg. Stuck inside a floating vodka bottle, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera are carried to the beach where he met Duchess, a shy and timid white cat, lives in a cinder box with her children in Modern-day New York City, She asked Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera where his family is but Tom Cat Jr. told her that he has no family he's an orphan, Duchess knew the day will come she prepares to adopt Tom Cat Jr. as a new family member of Duchess's clan, So she desided to take Tom Cat Jr. home with her and introduce him to his new family, hoping to consult with Immigration, but are waylaid by King Cat, a Shakespearean reciting conman wolf who sells them to a sweatshop. Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera escape, befriending an Italian cat named Tim Toponi (who nicknames him "Philly") in the process. On their way back home Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera encounter Danny, a clumsy but compassionate cat. Later that night Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera arrived at the cinder box she wants Toulouse, Marie, and Dinah to meet him including Berlioz, He has fallen ill, And so She brought a medicine to get him well. The next day Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera ran went to the market place where Tim and White Tabby, an Irish cat with whom Tim is friendly, who believe that Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera were drowned at sea before Duchess found on the beach until she adopted him.

During this time, Auntie Miss Kitty tells Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera that they would see The Great Pete, Show 'im a little courage, fight for Berlioz's live and must find a way to defeat the Nottingham. With the help of Danny, Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera visit the Great Pete, a wise creature living in the castle, to ask for help. He tells them to visit a mysterious group of alley cats who live beneath a rose bush on the farm and ask for Baba Miao. Duchess and Tom Cat Jr. go into the rats' home, where they are amazed to see their use of electricity and other human technology. They meet Baba Miao, the wise and mystical ruler of the alley cats, and Oliver, an extremely kind and friendly kitten who is the Captain of the Guards. She and her adoptive son learn that her late husband, along with the alley cats and Edmond, was a part of a series of experiments at a place known as NIMH (which stands for the National Institute of Mental Health). The experiments had boosted their intelligence to human level, allowing them to easily escape. However, the alley cats have concocted "The Plan", which is to leave New York and live without Nottingham. Baba Miao then gives Duchess an amulet that gives magical power when its wearer is courageous. Because of her husband's prior relationship with the alley cats, they agree to help Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera build a giant Godzilla of Minsk (based on Russian folklore).

They make friends with A wealthy vixen socialite named Vixey Mausheimer and the group of cats and went on their way to an abandoned building along the Chelsea Piers that night and inside begin to work building their creation. Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera were on their way to the docks, However they both volunteer to make there way into the sewer, only to find out that the music is coming from King Cat and a gang of Nottingham. Warren is Prince John a lion in a cat disguise and is running a protection racket as the gang's boss. When they discover Tom Cat Jr., Bagheera and his adoptive mother, they are captured and imprisoned in a cage. Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera end up befriending one of the Nottingham, Baloo, who admits that he's a vegetarian. As the 2 talk, they discover that even though they are a bear and cat, they share some of the same likes and dislikes. After talking, Baloo lets Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera go. However, there escape triggers an alarm, and Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera were chased to the New York Harbor where Tom Cat Jr. reveals King Cat's identity as a lion with a little help from Tim and Oliver. However, Cat R. Waul and his hesitant accomplice Butch, who wish to remain in the rose bush, kill Baba Miao, making it look like an accident. When the alley cats and the cats in their encampment refuse to give in to Prince John's demands, he lights a match and attempts to burn them alive. However, Tom Cat Jr. intercepts the match, and uses it to help jumpstart their 'secret weapon' – a giant creation based on the story of "The Giant Godzilla of Minsk," armed with fireworks provided by Chinese cats. The giant contraption chases the Nottingham down the docks and forces them onto a tramp steamer bound for Hong Kong.

It appears the alley cats and cats have won out, Duchess found Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera inside the building and yet she uses her magic stone to revive him and she that NIMH intends to come to exterminate the alley cats the next day, They manage run off and warn Oliver. Tom Cat Jr., Bagheera and Duchess arrive and try to convince the alley cats that NIMH is coming and that they must leave immediately. Cat R. Waul becomes angry and knocks them down. Oliver rushes to their aid, and a sword fight between him and Cat R. Waul ensues, which ends with Butch, himself mortally wounded, killing Cat R. Waul and saving Oliver's life. Before Duchess gave the amulet to Oliver, he told her to take Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera home, Suddenly a remnant of the fire Prince John started is still lit, and a spilled bottle of kerosene soon starts it to cause a blaze at the encampment. As the alley cats and cats scramble for cover, firefighters are dispatched to the blaze to put it out. In the ensuing chaos, Tom Cat Jr.'s long-lost sisters Rita and Jerry Mouse Jr. encounter Tim and White Tabby, who are looking for "Philly". Rita believes they're looking for Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera, and Tim confirms that Philly's original name is indeed Tom Cat Jr.. Rita still believes that Tom Cat Jr. is dead, but White Tabby gives Tom Cat Jr.'s hat to her (which her father gave Tom Cat Jr. at the start of the movie), confirming that was his old hat. Baloo is also present, and overhears the conversation among the cats. However, Duchess's will to save Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera's life gives power to the amulet, which she uses to lift the old crate (where Fievel was placed inside) out of the underground and move it to safety from the fire.

Shortly afterwards, Duchess, Tom Cat Jr. and Bagheera arrived home in the cinder box she puts him to bed just as like Berlioz, The next morning, the alley cats have already gone to Thorn Valley with Oliver as their new king, Berlioz has begun to recover and Tom Cat Jr. woke up and Duchess gave him a new hat, Rita and Jerry Mouse Jr. came to stay with the brisbies. Danny also finds "Miss Sawyer", an equally clumsy cat, and the two dance away together.
