Dan Drake was a Duck that was searching for the lost gold of the deceased Burly Washburn. He met the Pirate in Tumbleweed and dissuaded them of trying to find the gold of Captain Blood, as Drake told them it was cursed. He told the Pirate that he would cut the deal of the gold for half if they were able to find out the location of the gold from Jessup, who knew Burly. The Pirate was sent by Jessup to Burly's grave in Cooper's Roost and discovered that the verses on the grave spelt out "C-A-V-E", meaning that the treasure must be hidden in a cave. They told Dan Drake this, and Drake in turn told the Pirate to check out three caves in the Cool Ranch that were used by Burly Washburn and his gang at various points in time; Crystal Cave in Arroyo Grande, the McGee Mine in the Tumbleweed Skyway, and Echo Cave in Solitude.
The Pirate and their crew discovered Burley's gold in Echo Cave after a confrontation with Squinty. Dan Drake was of course following them the whole time, and in the moment that the crew discovered the gold Dan Drake betrayed them as he wanted to have the gold for himself and did not want to share it among anyone else. A fight ensued, and Dan Drake lost and surrendered himself.
