The Cenozoic Book is a 1987 American traditionally animated movie. It tells the story of Barnaby (Tom Hanks) and Baxter (Bill Murray) having a difficult time trying to convince a boy named Mickey (Joey Cramer) to leave the Cenozoic forest for human civilization. It is produced by Columbia Pictures. It is released in October 18, 1987.

Mickey, a young orphan boy, is found in a basket in the deep cenozoics by Barnaby, a Dinofelis who promptly takes him to Riley, a mother Dire Wolf who has just had cubs. She and her mate, Richard, raise him along with their own cubs and after ten years, Mickey becomes well acquainted with jungle life and plays with his dire wolf siblings. Barnaby is pleased with how happy Mickey is now, but also worries that Mickey must eventually return to his own kind.
One night, the dire wolf pack parents meet at Council Rock, having learned that Sheldon, a man-eating Smilodon fatalis, has returned to the pack's part of the jungle. Pack leader Alfred decides that Mickey must leave the jungle for his own safety. Barnaby volunteers to escort him to a "human civilization". They leave that very night, but Mickey is determined to stay in the jungle. He and Barnaby rest in a tree for the night, where Kevin, a hungry Wonambi, tries to devour Mickey, but Barnaby intervenes. The next morning, Mickey tries to join the woolly mammoths patrol, led by Colonel Harold and his wife Wanda. Barnaby finds Mickey, but after a fight, decides to leave Mickey on his own. Mickey soon meets up with the laid-back, fun-loving chalicotherium Baxter, who promises to raise Mickey himself and never take him to the human civilization.
Shortly afterward, a group of aegyptopithecus zeuxises kidnap Mickey and take him to their leader, King Larry the Gigantopithecus. King Larry offers to help Mickey stay in the jungle if he will tell Larry how to make fire, like other humans. However, since he was not raised by humans, Mickey does not know how to make fire. Barnaby and Baxter arrive to rescue Mickey and in the ensuing chaos, King Larry's palace is demolished to rubble. Barnaby speaks to Baxter that night and convinces him that the jungle will never be safe for Mickey with Sheldon around. In the morning, Baxter reluctantly explains to Mickey that the human civilization is best for him, but Mickey accuses him of breaking his promise and runs away. As Baxter sets off in search of Mickey, Barnaby rallies the help of Harold and his patrol. However, Sheldon himself, who was eavesdropping on Barnaby and Harold's conversation, is now determined to hunt and kill Mickey himself.
Meanwhile, Mickey has a second encounter with Kevin, who once again, attempts to eat him after putting him to sleep with hypnosis, but eventually wakes up and escapes thanks to the unwitting intervention of the suspicious Sheldon. As a storm gathers, a depressed Mickey encounters a group of friendly teratornises who accept Mickey as a fellow outcast. Sheldon appears shortly after, scaring off the teratornises and confronting Mickey. When lightning strikes a nearby tree and sets it ablaze, the teratornises swoop in to distract Sheldon, while Mickey grabs a large flaming branch and ties it to the Smilodon fatalis' tail. Sheldon, who is terrified of fire, panics and runs away.
After that, Baxter and Barnaby take Mickey to the edge of the human civilization, but Mickey is still hesitant to go there. However, his mind abruptly changes when he is smitten by a beautiful young girl from the village who is coming down by the riverside to fetch water. After noticing Mickey, she "accidentally" drops her water pot. Mickey retrieves it for her and follows her into the human civilization. After Mickey shrugs to Baxter and Barnaby, to show that he has made up his mind and chosen to go to the human civilization, Baxter and Barnaby decide to head home, content that Mickey is safe and happy with his own kind.
