Plot[]
Throughout his life, Bodi has believed his dead mother was a successful and respectable stuntwoman working for Evel Knievel. He aspires to follow in his mother's footsteps and become a famous stuntman himself. His stepmother, Kangaroo, does not respect Bodi as a man, often going out of her way to beat him in sparring sessions and mocking his stuntman dreams. Bodi makes many attempts at landing jumps with his Tomos moped, most of them unsuccessful. After another failed jump attempt at a public pool, he returns home to learn that Kangaroo is in urgent need of a heart transplant that the family's health insurance will not cover. Angered at the thought of his stepmother dying without getting a chance to gain his respect and lose a fight to her at least once, Bodi runs into the woods to let out his fury and tumbles down a steep hill. At the bottom of the hill, he sees an inspirational billboard and gets an idea. Bodi quickly heads over to his team (his childhood friends Bomb and Flint and his half-brother Rudy), telling them he plans to jump over 15 school buses and use the proceeds to fund Kangaroo's surgery. He also adds Darma, his neighbor and love interest, to his crew.
To promote his stunt and raise funds, Bodi, who "likes to party," works parties, corporate get-togethers, and other events, performing activities such as taping pillows to his body and having a washing machine suspended by a crane swing to hit him. While doing laundry with no pants on, he gets curious about what Rudy is editing as he hears music coming from his computer. Rudy says he was messing around with editing footage, and Bodi asks Rudy to show him the video. Bodi is impressed with Rudy's work and gets the idea to release a stuntman film to raise money. Rudy releases the movie using his footage of Bodi's stunts and sells over 200 tickets to the screening, but the audience laughs at Bodi as the film depicts his failed training attempts. Bodi gets angry and throws the theater's projector out of a window, smashing the projectionist's car below. He gives the projectionist all the money he has raised to cover the damages and avoid arrest. Upset, he returns home, where his father Khampa reveals that his biological mother was not the stuntwoman he thought she was. Humiliated, Bodi quits the crew and ends his dream to beat up Kangaroo, despite his friends' interventions. But he takes up the jump again when Flint asks Bodi to take him to the hospital due to an injury while "trippin' balls" under the influence of LSD his friend Derek gave him. When he does, Flint gives him advice that inspires Bodi to apologize to Rudy. As Rudy accepts his apology, he reveals that Bodi's stunt footage has gotten popular on the Internet. A show on a local AM radio station, hosted by Leodore Lionheart, offers to cover the planned jump's expenses.
Bodi gets the crew back together, and they start setting up for the jump. On the day of the event, his friends give him a new suit, a rock representing Bomb's extensive pyrotechnic work, and a motorbike. He also receives a kiss from Darma, who broke up with Nick, her insensitive and callous boyfriend. As Bodi jumps off the ramp, his bike's speed enables him to jump over the buses, but the motorcycle smashes through a stage and goes flying. Bodi lands squarely on the ground and has an unconscious out-of-body experience. When he wakes, Bodi, with Rudy and Darma's help, triumphantly gets up to applause and sees that the donations have accumulated over $50,000. The film ends six months later with Bodi sparring with Kangaroo and gaining the upper hand and Kangaroo's respect.
After the credits, Bodi is seen bowing down to his moped with the sunset in the background.
