Muriel Stubbs (Warren) is Thurgood's wife and the voice of reason. She wears a pink sweatsuit that has the word "Paris" on it. Muriel's sister, Bebe who is married to another tenant named Jimmy Ho and Bebe were likely born in Alabama during the era of school desegregation, as obvious by Muriel's having met her state's governor when she first attended an all-white high school.
