Tenders and Turntables (George Carlin)[]

  • Narrator: (a sad Henry and Gordon are lonely) Henry and Gordon were lonely when Thomas left the yard to run his branch line. They missed him very much. (as a sad Henry runs light engine, Gordon heads past, pulling his red and yellow Express coach and a red and white Knapford Express coach, on his Wil Nor Wester, while James shunts three red coaches together) They had more work to do and had to fetch some more coaches. The big engines thought they were too important to fetch coaches. James grumbled too.
  • Henry: We get no rest, we get no rest! (goes by, hauling three coaches like a green and yellow coach, Catherine the Culdee Fell coach, and a red boxcar at the back)
  • Narrator: They all complained. But the coaches only laughed.
  • Coaches: You're lazy and slack, you're lazy and slack!
  • Narrator: They answered. All together, the engines were causing Sir Topham Hatt a great deal of trouble. (as Gordon puffs onto a turntable, Henry backs onto a coach) The big stations both ends on the line each have a turntable. Sir Topham Hatt had made them so that the tender engines can be turned round because it is dangerous for them to go fast and backwards. Little tank engines like Thomas don't need turntables. They can go just as well backwards as forwards. But to hear Gordon talk, he would've thought that Sir Topham Hatt had given him a tender just to show how important he was. (as Gordon is being turned around)
  • Gordon: You don't understand, little Thomas! We Tender Engines have a position to keep up. It doesn't matter where you go, but we are important, and for Sir Topham Hatt to make us shunt freight cars, fetch coaches and go on some of those dirty sidings it's, it's, well, it's not the proper thing! (Gordon whistles and departs with the Wil Nor Wester train, and as he departs, pulling his red and yellow Express coach, red and white Knapford Express coach, Thomas follows with Annie and Clarabel)
  • Narrator: Thomas chuckled and went off with Annie and Clarabel.
  • Gordon: Very disgraceful! (tries to stand on the turntable in the right place, but ends up being blowing by the strong wind)
  • Narrator: Gordon hissed as he ran backwards to the turntable. The turntable was in the windy place close to the sea, and he was not on it just right, he put amount of balance and made a difficult to turn. Today, Gordon was in the bad temper, and the wind was blowing fiercly. His driver tried to make him stop in the right place but Gordon wasn't trying. The fireman tried to turn the handle, but Gordon's weight and the strong wind prevented him.
  • Driver: It's no good.
  • Narrator: They said at last.
  • Driver: Your big tender upsets the balance. If you were a little tank engine, you'd be all right. Now you'll have to pull the next train backwards. (as Gordon runs tender first into Elsbridge with his three Express coaches)
  • Boys: Look!
  • Narrator: Called some boys.
  • Boys: There's a new tank engine! Oh, it's only Gordon, back to front.
  • Thomas: Hello!
  • Narrator: Called Thomas.
  • Thomas: Playing tank engines? Sensible engine. Take my advice, scrap your tender and have a nice bunker.
  • Narrator: Gordon said nothing. (as James goes by with a green and yellow coach, Catherine the Coach, and a red boxcar and blows his whistle, Thomas whistles and departs with Annie and Clarabel) Even James laughed when he saw him.
  • Gordon: Take care.
  • Narrator: Hissed Gordon.
  • Gordon: You might stick too.
  • James: No fear.
  • Narrator: Chuckled James. (whistles as arrives at Tidmouth station)
  • James: I'm not so fat as you. (passes a freight train and goes onto the turntable) I mustn't stick.
  • Narrator: Thought James. He stopped on just the right place to balance the table. It could now swing easily. (as Gordon arrives, James ends up spinning round like a top, and covers his mouth to stop vomiting) Gordon arrived and time to see everything. James turned much too easily. The wind puffed him round like a top. He couldn't stop!
  • Gordon: Well, well!
  • Narrator: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: Are you playing roundabouts? (James backs into the shed, feeling sick, takes out a bag, and vomits into it. At night, James, Gordon, and Henry chat about Sir Topham Hatt)
  • Narrator: Poor James feeling quite giddy rolled off to the shed without a word. That night, the three engines had an indignation meeting.
  • Gordon: It's shameful to treat tender engines like this. (flashbacks are shown of Gordon running tender first, James spinning round like a top, and the three engines shunt in dirty sidings) Gordon has to go backwards and people think he's a tank engine, James spins like a top and everyone laughs at us. And added to that, Sir Topham Hatt makes us all shunt in dirty sidings. Ugh! Listen.
  • Narrator: Said Gordon. He whispered something to the others.
  • Gordon: We'll do it tomorrow. Sir Topham Hatt will look silly.
  • Narrator: The engines had decided to go on strike.

James Learns A Lesson (Ringo Starr-US)[]

  • Narrator: James was enjoying his life on the Island of Sodor, but he still had a lot to learn. (James speeds under a bridge)
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You're a special mixed traffic engine.
  • Narrator: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You can pull both coaches and freight cars quite easily, but you must learn by your mistakes. (a flashback of James is shown where he collides off the tracks with eleven freight cars and a caboose)
  • Narrator: James knew what Sir Topham Hatt meant. He could well remember that dreadful accident on his first day.
  • Edward: Be careful with the coaches, James. (James shunts a red and yellow Express coach and Old Slow Coach into a red and yellow Express coach, a red and white Knapford Express coach, and Spencer's red coach and are pushed into Knapford station by James when he pushes them and stops)
  • Narrator: Said kind little Edward.
  • Edward: They don't like being bumped.
  • Narrator: Everyone came to admire James. (Edward backs down onto James and couples up)
  • James: I'm a really splendid engine.
  • Narrator: He thought, and suddenly left off steam. A shower of water fell on Sir Topham's nice new tophat. Just then, the conductor blew his whistle, and James thought they had better go. (James blows a shower of water onto Sir Topham Hatt's new tophat, and when the conductor blows his whistle and gets on board the coaches, Edward and James, coupled together, blow their whistles, and depart Knapford station, with their ten coach working)
  • James: Go on! Go on!
  • Narrator: He puffed to Edward.
  • Edward: Don't push! Don't push!
  • Narrator: Replied Edward. The Coaches were grumbling too.
  • Coaches: Don't go so fast! Don't go so fast! (as Edward and James arrive at Dryaw station, they overrun the platform and go back to let out the passengers)
  • Narrator: But James didn't listen. When at last, they stopped at the next station, two coaches were beyond the platform. They had to go back to let their passengers out. But no one seemed to know about Sir Topham's new hat, so James felt happier. Presently, they came to the station, where Thomas was waiting with his coaches. (Edward and James arrive at Elsbridge station, where Thomas is waiting with Annie and Clarabel)
  • Thomas: Hello, James.
  • Narrator: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: Feeling better? That's right. Oh, that's my conductor's whistle. I must go. I don't know what Sir Topham Hatt would do without me to run this land. (the conductor blows his whistle and gets into Thomas's coaches, before Thomas whistles and departs Elsbridge)
  • Narrator: And he puffed off importantly. Edward and James passed the field where James had had his accident. The fence was mended and the cows were back again. (Edward and James, having passed the field with James having an accident, puff up Gordon's hill, and arrive at Maron station) They ended their journey, and rested before setting off for home. James was still wondering what Sir Topham would have to say about his new hat. (Edward and James blow their whistles and depart) Next morning, he spoke severely to James.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: (meets James the next morning) If you can't behave, I shall take away your red coat, and have you painted blue.
  • Narrator: James didn't like that at all. (James couples up to six coaches and takes them to Knapford station) He was very rough with the grumbling coaches as he brought them to the platform.
  • James: Don't talk! Come on!
  • Narrator: He called to them.
  • James: Donkey Kong never has to fetch his own coaches,
  • Narrator: He huffed to himself.
  • James: And he's only painted blue. (James whistles and sets off with his six coaches)
  • Narrator: To make James even more cross, this time no one came near him.
  • James: I'll show them.
  • Narrator: He thought.
  • James: They think Gordon is the only engine, who can tackle coaches. Hurry, hurry, hurry! (passes a freight train, with eight freight cars and a caboose, hauled by Thomas, going out of the yard)
  • Narrator: Puffed James.
  • Coaches: You're going too fast! You're going too fast!
  • Narrator: Replied the coaches.. James laughed and tried to go faster, but the coaches wouldn't let him.
  • Wolves: We're going to stop.
  • Narrator: They said.
  • Coaches: We're going to stop! (the brakes are heard squealing as James comes to a halt and makes a hole in one of his coaches by accidentally bumping it too hard)
  • James: What's the matter?
  • Narrator: James asked his Driver.
  • James' Driver: The Brakes are hard on. Leak in the pipe, most likely. You've banged the wolves enough to make a leak in anything.
  • James' Conductor: How shall we mend it?
  • Narrator: Said the conductor.
  • James' Driver: We'll do it with newspaper and a leather bootlace.
  • Narrator: Replied the driver.
  • Conductor: Well, where is the bootlace coming from?
  • Narrator: Asked the conductor.
  • Rabbit's Driver: Ask the passengers.
  • Narrator: Said the driver.
  • Conductor: You have a leather bootlace there, I see, sir.
  • Narrator: Said the conductor to a smartly dressed man.
  • The Conductor: Please give it to me.
  • Smartly Dressed Man: I won't.
  • Narrator: Said the man.
  • Guard: Then,
  • Narrator: Said the conductor,
  • The conductor: I'm afraid we'll all have to stay where we are.
  • Narrator: The passengers all said what a bad land it was. Then they told the conductor how bad he was instead. Everyone was very cross. At last, he handed his laces over. The Driver tied a pad of newspaper tightly around the hole in the brake pipe, and James was able to pull the train. (a sad James sets off) But he was a sadder and wiser James, and took care never to bump coaches again.

Toby the Tram Engine (Ringo Starr-US)[]

  • Narrator: (the scene opens with Toby, Henrietta, and four freight cars crossing the valley) Toby is a tram engine. He has cowcatchers and side plates and doesn't look like a steam engine at all. He takes from farms and villages to the main line and is cheerful to everyone he meets. He has a coach called Henrietta who has seen better days.
  • Henrietta: It's not fair at all.
  • Narrator: (a flashback of Toby, Henrietta, and nine freight cars puffing along) She grumbles remembering she used to be full and nine cars would rattle behind her. Now there were only 3 or four for the farms and factories send their goods mostly by truck. Toby is always careful. The cars, buses and trucks often had accidents. Toby hasn't had an accident for years. But the buses are crowded and Henrietta is empty. (Toby's bell rings as he pulls into his station)
  • Narrator: A lady and a stout gentleman stood on Toby's platform. He was of course Sir Topham Hatt. But Toby didn't noticed yet.
  • Children: Come on, grandfather.
  • Narrator: Cried the children.
  • Children: Do look at this engine.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: That's a tram engine, Stephen.
  • Narrator: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Bridget: Is it electric?
  • Narrator: Asked Bridget.
  • Toby: Whoosh! (blows off steam)
  • Narrator: Hissed Toby.
  • Stephen: Shh!
  • Narrator: Said her brother.
  • Stephen: You've offended him.
  • Bridget: But trams are electric, aren't they?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They are mostly, and this is a steam tram.
  • Children: May we go in it, grandfather, please?
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Stop!
  • Narrator: Said Sir Topham Hatt to the conductor. They all scrambled into Henrietta. (the passengers hop into Henrietta as Toby sets off)
  • Henrietta: Hip-hip hooray!
  • Narrator: Chanted Henrietta. But Toby didn't sing.
  • Toby: Electric indeed! Electric indeed!
  • Narrator: He snorted. He was proud of being a steam tram.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What is your name?
  • Narrator: Asked Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Toby: Toby, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Thank you, Toby, for a very nice ride.
  • Toby: Thank you, sir.
  • Narrator: Said Toby. He felt better now.
  • Toby: (puffs along with Henrietta) This gentleman...
  • Narrator: He thought.
  • Toby: ...is a gentleman who knows how to speak to engines. (puffs along with Henrietta and three freight cars)
  • Narrator: The children came every day for two weeks. Sometimes they rode with the conductor, sometimes in empty cars. On the last day of all the driver invited them into his cab. All were sorry when they had to go away and Sir Topham Hatt and his family thanked everyone.
  • Toby: (rings his bell and departs) Come again soon.
  • Narrator: Replied Toby.
  • Children: We will, we will.
  • Narrator: Called the children. And they waved till Toby was out of sight. The months passed. Toby had few cars and fewer passengers.
  • Driver: Our last day, Toby.
  • Narrator: Said his driver one morning.
  • Driver: The manager says we must close tomorrow. (Toby goes along to collect Henrietta with the passengers on board Henrietta)
  • Narrator: That day, everyone will have a chance of a last ride. The passengers joked and sang, but Toby and his driver wish they wouldn't. (Toby sets off with Henrietta on his last run)
  • Passengers: Goodbye, Toby.
  • Narrator: Said the passengers afterwards.
  • Passengers: We're sorry your line was closing down.
  • Toby: So am I.
  • Narrator: Sighed Toby. (Toby leaves Henrietta behind and hides in his shed)
  • Toby: Nobody wants me.
  • Narrator: Toby thought and went unhappily to sleep. Next morning, the shed was flung open and old Toby woke with a start to his driver waving a piece of paper at him.
  • Driver: Wake up, Toby!
  • Narrator: He shouted excitely.
  • Driver: The mail has just arrived and there's a letter for us from the stout gentleman! Maybe it's good news.

Edward Helps Out (Ringo Starr-US)[]

  • Narrator: One day, Edward was in the shed where he live with the other engines. They were all bigger than Edward and boasted about it. (a tired Edward is shown at Tidmouth sheds with James, Gordon, Henry, and a tired Thomas)
  • Gordon: The driver won't choose you again.
  • Narrator: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: He wants strong engines like us.
  • Narrator: But the driver and fireman felt sorry for Edward.
  • Driver: Would you like to come out today?
  • Edward: Oh yes, please.
  • Narrator: Said Edward. So they lit his fire, made lots of steam and Edward puffed away. (Edward puffs away, looking happy, plus a happy Thomas, except Henry, Gordon, and James) The other engines were very cross of being left behind. (Edward puffs along the main line, hauling a green and yellow coach, Catherine the Culdee coach, and a red Sodor Brass Band coach, speeds underneath a bridge, and comes out of the other side) Edward worked hard all day. The coaches thought he was very kind (Edward's driver is pleased) and the driver was very pleased. (Edward puffs into the sunset)
  • Edward: I'm going out again tomorrow.
  • Narrator: Edward told the other engines that night.
  • Edward: What do you think at that?
  • Narrator: But he didn't hear what they thought, (the others engines are not impressed, except for a happy Thomas, who is pleased) for he was so tired and happy that he fell asleep at once. (Edward falls asleep) Next morning, Edward woke up to find nothing had change. (the engines all awaken) Gordon was still boasting.
  • Gordon: You watch me, little Edward, as I rush through with the express. That will be a splendid sight for you. (puffs away) Goodbye, little Edward. Look out for me this afternoon.
  • Narrator: Edward went off to do some shunting. (Edward puffs away) He liked shunting. It was fun playing with freight cars. (a freight car is shunted) He would come out quietly and give them a push. (Edward bumps more freight cars together) Then he would stop, and the silly freight cars will go bump into the each other. (the freight cars bump each other)
  • Cars: Oh!
  • Narrator: They cried.
  • Cars: Whatever is happening?
  • Narrator: Edward played till there were no more freight cars. (various shots of Edward shunting freight cars are shown) Then he stopped to rest. (Edward stops to rest) Presently, he heard a whistle. (Edward hears a whistle) Gordon was very cross. Instead of shiny new coaches, he was pulling a very dirty freight train. (Gordon puffs by, hauling eight freight cars and a caboose)
  • Gordon: A freight train, a freight train, a freight train!
  • Narrator: He grumbled.
  • Gordon: The shame of it, the shame of it, oh, the shame of it!
  • Narrator: Edward laughed and went to find some more freight cars. (Edward puffs away) Then, there was trouble.
  • Porter: Gordon can't get up the hill.
  • Narrator: The porter called to Edward's Driver.
  • Porter: Will you take Edward and push him please? (Edward puffs onward to reach the hill)
  • Narrator: They found Gordon halfway up, and very cross. His driver and fireman were talking to him severely. (Edward stops and sees Gordon stuck)
  • Driver: You're not trying.
  • Gordon: I can't do it!
  • Narrator: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: The noisy freight cars hold an engine back so!
  • Narrator: Edward's driver came up.
  • Driver: We've come to push.
  • Gordon: No use at all!
  • Narrator: Said Gordon.
  • Driver: You wait and see.
  • Narrator: Replied Edward's driver. (Gordon brings the train back down to the bottom of the hill) They brought the train back to the bottom of the hill. (Edward puffs upward and buffers up)
  • Edward: I'm ready.
  • Narrator: Said Edward.
  • Gordon: No good.
  • Narrator: Grumbled Gordon. They pulled and pushed as hard as they could. (Gordon sets off, hauling the freight cars and caboose with him, and with Edward pushing from behind)
  • Gordon: I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it!
  • Narrator: Puffed Gordon.
  • Edward: I will do it, I will do it, I will do it!
  • Narrator: Puffed Edward. Edward pushed and puffed and puffed and pushed as hard as ever he could. And almost before he realized it, Gordon found himself at the top of the hill. (Gordon speeds over the top)
  • Gordon: I've done it, I've done it, I've done it! (a tired Edward follows)
  • Narrator: He said proudly. He forgot all about kind Edward and didn't say thank you. (Gordon speeds through Maron station) Edward was left out of breath and far behind, (Edward puffs over a viaduct) but he was happy because he had been so helpful. (Edward runs through Maron station) At the next station, he found that the driver and fireman were very pleased with him. (Edward stops) The fireman gave him a nice long drink and the driver said... (a tired Edward grabs a coke can and drinks his coke)
  • Driver: I'll get out my paint tomorrow, and give you your beautiful coat of blue with red stripes, then you'll be the smartest engine in the shed.

Down the Mine (Ringo Starr-US)[]

  • Narrator: One day, Thomas was at the junction when Gordon shuffled in with some freight cars. (Gordon pulls into Lower Tidmouth alongside Thomas, Annie and Clarabel)
  • Thomas: (alarmed) Phew!
  • Narrator: Remarked Thomas
  • Thomas: (covers his nose) What a funny smell. Can you smell a smell?
  • Annie: I can't smell a smell.
  • Narrator: Said Annie.
  • Thomas: A funny musty sort of smell.
  • Narrator: Said Thomas.
  • Gordon: No one noticed until you did.
  • Narrator: Grumbled Gordon.
  • Gordon: It must be yours.
  • Narrator: Not long ago, he had fallen into a dirty ditch. Thomas enjoyed teasing him about it.
  • Thomas: Annie, Clarabel, do you know what I think it is? It's ditchwater. (backs up to Annie and Clarabel, couples up to them, and speeds away)
  • Narrator: Before Gordon could answer, Thomas puffed away. Annie and Clarabel could hardly believe their ears.
  • Annie: He's dreadfully rude i feel quite ashamed.
  • Clarabel: I feel quite ashamed he's dreadfully rude.
  • Narrator: And to Thomas they said.
  • Annie and Clarabel: You musn't be rude, you make us ashamed.
  • Narrator: But Thomas didn't care a bit.
  • Thomas: That was funny, that was funny. (shunts Annie and Clarabel into a siding and goes off to the mine for some freight cars)
  • Narrator: He chuckled. He felt very pleased with himself. Annie and Clarabel were deeply shocked. They have great respect for Gordon The Big Engine. Thomas left the coaches at the station and went off to a mine for some cars. Long ago, miners digging there have made tunnels under the ground. Their rooves are strong enough to hold up cars but not the weight of engines. A large notice warns them not to enter the area: Danger! Engines must not pass this board.
  • Thomas: Silly old board.
  • Narrator: Thought Thomas. He had often tried to pass it but had never suceeded. But this morning he had made a plan. The fireman went to throw the switch.
  • Thomas: Now for my plan! (bumps the cars fiercely, jerks his driver off the footplate, and follows the cars into a siding, only to fall down into the mine below)
  • Narrator: Huffed Thomas. Bumping the cars fiercely, he jerked his driver off the footplate and followed them into the siding.
  • Thomas' Driver: Come back!
  • Narrator: Yelled his driver. (A loud splash is heard as a surprised Thomas approaches and falls down into the mine)
  • Thomas: Fire and smoke!
  • Narrator: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: I'm sunk.
  • Narrator: And he was.
  • Thomas: Oh, dear.
  • Narrator: He said.
  • Thomas: (sad) I am a silly engine.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: And a very naughty one, too. I saw you!
  • Narrator: Said Sir Topham Hatt. (a tired Thomas is stuck in the mine)
  • Thomas: Please get me out. I won't do it again.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'm not sure. We can't lift you out with the cranes. The ground's not firm enough. Hmm, let me see. I wonder if Gordon could pull you out.
  • Thomas: Yes sir.
  • Narrator: Said Thomas. But he didn't want to meet Gordon just yet.
  • Gordon: Down the mine is he? Ha! ha! ha!
  • Narrator: Laughed Gordon.
  • Gordon: What a joke! Poop poop! Little Thomas, we'll have your out in a couple of puffs. (Gordon, hauling the breakdown train, comes to Thomas's rescue and pulls him out of the mine and brings himself and Thomas back to Tidmouth sheds)
  • Narrator: Strong cables were fastened between the two engines.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Are you ready? Heave!
  • Narrator: It was a lot harder than they all thought, but, at last, Thomas was free.
  • Thomas: I'm sorry I was cheeky.
  • Narrator: Said Thomas.
  • Gordon: That's all right, Thomas. You made me laugh.
  • Narrator: Replied Gordon.
  • Gordon: I'm in disgrace.
  • Thomas: So do I.
  • Narrator: Huffed Thomas.
  • Gordon: Why, so you are, Thomas. Shall we form an alliance. You help me and i help you.
  • Thomas: Right you are.
  • Narrator: Agreed Thomas.
  • Gordon: Good. That's settled.
  • Narrator: Grumbled Gordon. And buffer to buffer the allies puffed home. (as Gordon's whistle toots, Thomas' whistle toots, before Thomas and Gordon puff back home)

Thomas Saves The Day (Season 1) (George Carlin)[]

  • Narrator: Every day, Sir Topham Hatt came to the station to catch his train.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Hello.
  • Narrator: He always said to Thomas.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Don't let the silly freight cars tease you. Remember, you have an important job as a special helper in the train yard. (As Henry leaves with some freight cars, like three coal cars, a boxcar, and a caboose, Thomas' whistle toots, while he shunts three freight cars like a coal car, mail car, and cattle car into three others, like a timber car, a fish car, and a boxcar, and a caboose, alongside a breakdown train)
  • Narrator: There were lots of freight cars and Thomas worked very hard pushing and pulling them into place. There was also a small coach and two strange things his driver called cranes.
  • Thomas' Driver: That's the breakdown train.
  • Narrator: He told Thomas.
  • Thomas' Driver: The cranes are for lifting heavy things like engines and coaches and freight cars.
  • Narrator: One day, Thomas was in the yard. Suddenly, he heard an engine whistling. (as Thomas shunts three freight cars, like a crate car, a mail car, and a boxcar, into five others, like five coal cars and stands next to Edward, a surprised Thomas and a tired Edward are both surprised to see a tired James, blowing his whistle, and hauling eleven freight cars, such as three coal cars, two timber ones, another coal car, a tarp car, a fuel car, a tar wagon, a cattle car, a boxcar, and a caboose passing them at a dangerous speed)
  • James: Help! Help!
  • Narrator: A freight train came rushing through much too fast. The engine was James and he was frightened. His brake blocks were on fire.
  • James: They're pushing me, they're pushing me.
  • Narrator: He panted.
  • Foolish Freight Cars: On! On!
  • Narrator: Laughed the freight cars. Still whistling...
  • James: Help! Help!
  • Narrator: Poor James disappeared.
  • Thomas: (tired) I like to teach those freight cars a lesson. (a tired Edward looks sad)
  • Narrator: Said Thomas the Tank Engine. (a tired Thomas now becomes brave and hears an alarm ringing)
  • Narrator: Soon came the alarm.
  • Signalman: James is off the line. The breakdown train quickly. (a tired Thomas runs along and couples up to the Breakdown train)
  • Narrator: Thomas was coupled on and off they went. Thomas worked his hardest.
  • Thomas: Hurry, hurry, hurry!
  • Narrator: He puffed. He wasn't predenting to be like Gordon. He really meant it.
  • Thomas: Bother those freight cars and their tricks. I hope poor James isn't hurt.
  • Narrator: James' driver and fireman were feeling him all over to see if he was hurt. (Cows moo as James is in a field with one of the cows looking at him. Luckily, his caboose and the last six few cars are on the rails, except for him and his six front ones piled in a heap)
  • James' Driver and Fireman: Never mind, James.
  • Narrator: They said.
  • James' Driver and Fireman: It was those silly freight cars and your old wooden brakes that caused the accident.
  • Narrator: Thomas pushed the breakdown train alongside. Then he pulled away the unhurt freight cars. (Thomas pushes the breakdown train alongside, and pulls away the unhurt cars)
  • Foolish Freight Cars: Oh, dear. Oh, dear.
  • Narrator: They groaned.
  • Thomas: Serves you right, serves you right.
  • Narrator: Puffed Thomas. He was hard at work puffing backwards and forwards all afternoon.
  • Thomas: This'll teach you a lesson, this'll teach you a lesson.
  • Narrator: He told the freight cars. And they answered...
  • Freight Cars: Yes it will, yes it will.
  • Narrator: They left the broken cars. Then with two cranes they put James back on the rails. (The cranes lift James away from the field. A happy Thomas watches as James is put back to the rails) He tried to move, but he couldn't so Thomas helped him back to the shed. (Thomas blows his whistle and couples to James and pulls the engine back to the workshop) Sir Topham Hatt was waiting anxiously for them. (Thomas, blowing his whistle, arrives)
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Well, Thomas.
  • Narrator: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I heard all about it and I'm very pleased with you. You're a really useful engine. James shall have some proper brakes and a new coat of paint and you shall have a branch line all to yourself.
  • Thomas: Oh thank you sir.
  • Narrator: Said Thomas. Now Thomas is as happy as can be. He has a branch line and two coaches called Annie and Clarabel. He puffs proudly backwards and forwards with them all day. (Thomas puffs along, pulling his two coaches called Annie and Clarabel, along his very own branchline) He is never lonely. Edward and Henry stop quite often and tell him the news. (as Edward and Henry arrive, hauling a green and yellow coach, Catherine the Culdee Fell Coach, and a red Sodor brass band coach, Gordon goes by, hauling Spencer's red Express coach and two red and yellow Express coaches) Gordon is always in a hurry, but never forgets to say...
  • Gordon: (blows his whistle) Poop Poop.
  • Narrator And Thomas always whistles...
  • Thomas: Peep Peep.
  • Narrator: In return. (Thomas' whistle toots)
