Mongoose, Yellow.jpg

The yellow mongoose (Cynictis penicillata) is endemic to and widely distributed throughout Southern Africa. Mainly predating insects, the yellow mongoose will also hunt arachnids and vertebrates such as rodents and birds. The yellow mongoose is the primary host for a strain of rabies endemic to South Africa. Yellow mongooses are mostly diurnal and rest in burrows, often sharing these with ground squirrels and meerkats.
